When someone mentions the term Psychic Vampires, most people will picture Dracula in their mind, sucking the blood from some innocent young girl. In reality the term has nothing to do with Dracula, bar being symbolic of someone stealing your energy to make themselves feel better.
Psychic Vampires are more often than not needy people, who find a willing victim who at the beginning is usually helpful and friendly, they take this as an open invitation to do as they please. The Psychic Vampire will happily unload all of their troubles on another person, in a sense they are trying to shift the weight of pain to another. Instead of taking ownership of their problems, they seek someone else who can carry the burden for them. The friend will get sucked in bit by bit by the drama of this persons life. The Psychic Vampire is usually depressed and besides seeking to unburden themselves they also seek upliftment, they seek to feel better, just as Dracula drank blood to feel rejuvenated ,the Psychic Vampire feeds off someone else’s positivity. Sadly this positivity will not last for long the more they are sucked into the negative world of the Psychic Vampire.
I am sure you have all known someone like this, or maybe you have been this way yourself sometime in your life. It is nothing to be ashamed of, we have all made mistakes and we have all become needy at sometime or another. Most of us manage to shrug off the negative feelings that surround us, but some find it very difficult. They seem to live in groundhog day. Telling their friends the same story over and over again, reliving the same negative thoughts in their mind time after time. The Psychic Vampire will bang their drum day and night, it is a record that never changes. They blame the world for their problems, they hate everything including themselves. And this hatred will turn towards their friends if they do not listen. If you avoid them too much, you just become another friend that does not care.
So what do you do with a friend like this, they are in a mental meltdown. Going around in circles and never really managing to change anything or achieve anything. It is a tricky situation, but you did open the door to the Vampire in the first place, so you must learn how to close the door, or at least manage to only leave a little gap in the door to talk through.
Firstly you must set boundaries, you must manage your time with them. Give them a period of time to talk to you, that you feel comfortable with. Say 20 minutes, at the end of that either leave their company, or make an excuse and put the phone down. Do not pick the phone up if they call again. You must distance yourself from their negativity. You cannot help them if you end up feeling as bad as them. You become nothing more than a doormat, all their troubles landing at your door. They will not help them to take ownership of their problems, if they can talk all day about them to you, this will just keep them in a vicious cycle and it keeps you attached to their drama. It is their problem after all and not yours. Yes you want to help as a friend, but you are not helping by being sucked in. If someone is drowning in the river, do you jump in when you could throw a life ring to them, and then pull them in. With such a person as a Psychic Vampire you must do the same.
The Psychic Vampire has took control of the situation, it is now your turn to take control. You will not help them unless you can help on your terms. After all they have come to you for some kind of help, you won’t be very helpful if you feel depressed as well. So be a good friend and set some ground rules for your friendship.
There is an interesting book called The Games People Play. In this book, it describes many mind games people play with friends, relatives and work colleagues. One of the biggest games described is a game where a certain person will seek so many strokes in a day. Just as you may stroke your friends head for 5 minutes for them to feel better, the same applies in many different ways. A friend or relative may rubbish everything you say, they may attempt to make you sound stupid, so they can feel intelligent, they knock your suggestions and revel in everything they suggest. I am sure you have seen many people like this, they basically put another down, to make themselves feel better or superior. This is a game, it is an energy game, basically they need stroking just the same as you would do stroking their hair. They need their ego stroking to make themselves feel better. The more strokes they get the happier they feel, the Psychic Vampire works just the same.
As you can see Vampires can come in many forms, they are not always the most needy people, they can be friends and relatives who want to feel superior. It could be a Mother or Brother who always puts you down. It could be the boss at work or even an advisor in a government office. These people are everywhere, it is your job to be unlike them, be a good example instead of how to be.
So far I have described Psychic Vampires of this world, yet there are equally Psychic Vampires that have not managed to cross properly to the next world. In a sense they are in limbo. These spirits have not managed to walk away from the misery they left behind when they died. If they see someone who is depressed or filled with negativity they will draw close. I am sure many of you have felt a cold negative feeling close to you, that could be a friend on earth that has attached their negative feelings to you, or it could equally be an earthbound spirit that has drawn close.
The solution to the problem is the same for an earthbound spirit as it is your depressed friend. You must take control, you must not allow the negative feelings of other people or those of spirit to overtake you. These sensations are their feelings not yours, you must acknowledge them, but not own them, send a prayer for your friend, or for the earthbound spirit. Remind them that these are their problems, yes you can feel them, but you do not want them, you have listened and your answer is to send love, but you will not give anymore. Do you know a Psychic Vampire?
