Have you ever visited somewhere for the first time and felt a strong sense of Deja Vu. Or, experienced dreams that were so vivid and felt so real, about a time and place in the past; where you were a different person, even a different gender? If the answer is yes, then you are not alone. And this has been reflected by the massive interest that seems to have taken place over the last twenty years or so, in the study of subjects like; Reincarnation, rebirth and past lives. People bandy around expressions such as “I’m looking for my ‘soul mate’”. Or ” I must have done something really terrible or bad in my past life, because I am having so much bad luck or trouble in this one”. You know when you hear people using analogies such as this; that a concept, idea or belief has well and truly become a part of our popular culture. Books such as ‘Many Lives, Many Masters’ by Dr Brian Weiss and Michael Newtons ‘Journey Of Souls’, have fuelled the fire of people’s enthusiasm and curiosity about this fascinating esoteric subject. Although it is, a relatively a new concept to the people of the western world, it has long been an integral and fundamental part of the spiritual beliefs of Hindu’s and Buddhists and other eastern traditions. Even in the Christian bible, there are references to it.
People choose to embark on Past Life Regression for different reasons. For some it is simple curiosity. Their motives are more for it’s entertainment value then for any deep and purposeful way of exploring their spirituality or the continuation of the human spirit, albeit it in a different form or setting. They want to impress an entertain their friends with stories of a past life in some extraordinary time in history. Preferably as an important or powerful person in the past. It is curious, how we all want to be Julius Ceaser, or Cleopatra. When in reality, the odds are that we were just ordinary people living normal lives, just as we do now. For others, it can have a much deeper significance and meaning. Or it might be connected to a health issue that they believe has it’s roots deeply embedded in a past life. Whatever your reasons, I would strongly recommend, you only use a qualified past-life therapist. If you are looking for help with a health issue, then please make sure that all other avenues have been explored. By seeking expert help and advice from your GP and other health professionals.
Dr Brian Weiss the author of many past life books, is a qualified psychiatrist, a graduate of Columbia University and Yale Medical School. Dr Weiss, only became involved in past life experiences, when some of the patients he was treating for depression and anxiety conditions, started to recall past life memories while under hypnosis. “As a traditional psychotherapist, Dr. Brian Weiss was astonished and sceptical when one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares and anxiety attacks. His scepticism was eroded, however, when she began to channel messages from “the space between lives,” which contained remarkable revelations about Dr. Weiss’s family and his dead son. Using past-life therapy, he was able to cure the patient and embark on a new, more meaningful phase of his own career”.
Past life therapists believe, that just as your childhood in this life-helped mould you into the person you are now, mentally and emotionally, so past lives moulded your soul into the emotional and energetic way it is now. Just as a childhood trauma in this life can leave you damaged in some way, or lead you down a certain path, so a past-life trauma can have caused you to emerge into this life damaged in some way. There are a few different approaches to past life therapy, such as The Shamanic approach; Hypnotherapy and Guided Imagery. Past life memories can also spontaneously surface when a person is having some kind of therapeutic ‘body Work’ done. Body work, is where another type of holistic therapy such as Relfexology or Acupuncture treatment is being received. An unexpected side affect of the treatment if you will. This might indicate that the problem the individual was seeking help for, had it’s foundations in a past life event or trauma.
There are many ‘do it yourself’ tapes and workbooks on the market to help you explore your past lives. Almost all cater at the ‘curiousity’ level, and few seem to recognize the dangers that can await the unwary traveler into these realms. A few tapes claim to be all you need to heal the past and change your present life. The tapes usually, but not necessarily talk you both into and out of the regression experience. They sometimes, but not always suggests therapeutic ways of healing the past, should this be necessary. Some writers have suggested that during exercises the subconscious mind, or three Higher self, will only give us the memories we can cope with and will switch off from the others. But this is not necessarily so. And being alone without a therapist with you, there are no ‘safe guards’ in place to help you should things go wrong.
If you have past life experiences within you, bursting to get out, believe me they will make themselves felt, without you having to embark on self help – hypnosis work. Complimentary therapies of all kinds, yoga, meditation, music, places and meeting people, have all been known to trigger off spontaneous memories. So please, resist the urge to explore past lives on your own. Seek out a proper therapist. As a response to this need, hundreds if not thousands of Past Life Therapists and counsellors have sprung up in response; particularly on the internet. Be wary, be discerning. Any type of therapy where hypnosis or being taken into a highly suggestive state, is used, should be handled with extreme care. The human mind and emotions are delicate. Past life therapy can bring to the surface, many unresolved emotions and feelings. Not necessarily to do with past life, but anything that has been repressed. When someone is being guided through this, they need lots of support and care. Only someone who is highly skilled in this area should be used. So please do your homework, and find someone who is highly qualified in this field and comes well recommended. Have you had past life regression? Do you have a story to share?
