Human beings are first and foremost energy beings. Everyone has an energy counterpart which both occupies the body and extends beyond it as the aura: it is this that supplies, life, health and vitality to the physical body. When the energy system breaks down or is blocked in any way, related parts of the body cease to vibrate with life force, and this creates ill-health in the physical system. The concept of life force and the energy system are becoming increasingly accepted today. Many of the alternative or complementary methods of healing, such as acupuncture, reflexology, Chinese medicine, Ayurveda (from Ayer – meaning ‘life’ and veda – meaning ‘knowledge or science’) to name but a few, have been based on these principles for centuries. For those of us who constantly use and work with energy experiences every day, believe that a full understanding of these energies could revolutionize our attitudes to physical and mental health.
For the purpose of this article, primarily I am going to focus on the area around the crown and brow. These area’s are the most strongly connected to ‘mind energy’. I believe by coming to understand the way in which this energy works, you can use that knowledge to literally change your life. Transforming your life in an almost magical way. An energy healer is able to see or feel the texture of the auric field. When someone is depressed or under considerable mental stress. This energy can be seen as dark, cloudy and condensed. Pressed close to the head, rather than expanded and free flowing. This might explain why individuals who suffer from anxiety frequently complain of headaches or sensations of heaviness and intense pressure around these areas. I believe that the most important realization a person will ever make, is the understanding, that ‘what they think’ will directly affect ‘how they feel’.
Negative thinking is the biggest culprit for affecting mind energy in a detrimental way. Have you ever noticed how quickly your emotions and energy levels are affected when you come into contact with a negative person or situation? Have you ever heard the expression “don’t burst my bubble”? As a energy healer, this mental imagery immediately brings to mind the auric field – sometimes described as a colourful bubble of energy around the body. An unkind word, or stressful situation, will deflate that bubble, as fast as someone pricking a balloon with a pin. All the air leaks out, and the same can be said for the life force and energy flowing through your body, when overwhelmed by fear, panic and low self-esteem.
It is so important to develop the habit of thinking outward. Connect with your surroundings and what is going on in the present. Thinking of oneself all the time, re-living unhappy memories – conversations with others that made you feel bad about yourself – is a bad habit. Inward thinking draws the mind energy in, and down. Whilst thinking outward, expands it and releases the pressure. Negative thinking makes one feel heavy and listless. Whereas positive thinking, looking forward, will make you feel light and full of energy. Another example would be: have you ever noticed how your memory is affected when times are difficult and negativity creeps in. This is because the brain cells are under pressure and cannot function properly. When this pressure is very bad, the messages which the brain gives the body to enable it to function can sometimes be incorrect, and this can cause a number of really unpleasant and sometimes frightening physical problems, which are sometimes referred to as psychosomatic. In her book Mind Magic, the late healer and medium Betty Shine says: “The control tower of the whole body, is mind energy. The brain is the computer; mind energy is the power that activates it. Without the mind energy, the brain and the body die.”
Aside from the obvious benefits of positive thinking to energize and expand and protect the mind energy; here are two simple visualization techniques that you can learn to do, when at home, undisturbed and alone – that will help to facilitate this further.
THE AURIC EGG Close your eyes and take some slow deep breaths. Imagine in your minds eye a giant egg. There is a door to this egg. Open the door, walk through it and lock it behind you. Inside the egg you will find some large soft cushions. Sit or lie on these cushions and allow yourself to totally relax. When you are ready, visualize the eggshell hardening. Harden it until it is as strong as steel or concrete. When you are satisfied that there is no way that anyone can break into it, relax and continue with your day. Ideally, this exercise should be done, at the beginning of each day.
The purpose of this exercise is particularly beneficial for those individuals who are very emotionally sensitive, and empathic. Or for those people who live very stressful lives. Who may also frequently find themselves dealing with people who are demanding and needy. There is nothing wrong with ‘being there for others’ or, with ‘turning to others’ for emotional support. We have all been in those positions at different times in our lives. But it is important to protect yourself. The auric egg, exercise will help to stop any excessive draining away of your own mind energy and life force.
EXPANDING THE AURIC FIELD Close your eyes and take some slow deep breaths. In your minds eye I would like you to imagine that you are standing inside a beautiful balloon. The balloon can be any colour you wish. (make a mental note of the colour to remember afterwards). Imagine that you are blowing the balloon up. You want it to swell outward and upward. Slowly see it expanding until it reaches the ceiling of the room you are in. Then as you keep visualizing it swelling and growing, imagine it is filling up the whole house. See your balloon grow beyond your house. See it filling up with light and energy and moving upward and onwards as far as the eye can see.
The purpose of this exercise, is to expand your auric field. If you’ve been feeling depressed, unwell or simply tired. The aura tends to cling and condense thickly around the body. This causes a lack of free flow of energy, which can often manifest in the physical body as anxiety, depression, tension, muscular pains, stomach upsets and headaches. By expanding it, you will notice almost immediately, a sense of lightness – a lifting up of mood. If practised regularly, keeping your auric field expanded in this way, will make it difficult for the energy to condense and become stuck. Do you have any experiences or questions you wish to share or ask?

Some great tips here. I’ve found that thoughts themselves often have power like anything tangible out there, and training yourself and filling yourself with positive, active thoughts can really help change your life.
