For quite some time now, even the medical profession has recognised the mind, body connection when it comes to health and well being. Though due to time constraints, it is very difficult for them to address emotional and spiritual issues that contribute to the manifestation of disease and chronic health conditions. But for many people, this can be the beginning of a journey of self awareness and self discovery. A catalyst that propels them on a journey towards discovering their own ability to help heal themselves.
Self healing energy occurs through the ability of the individual to tap into the inner resources found within us all. This may apply to different forms of alternative methods of physical or spiritual self healing. Among the more popular forms are: Reiki, the most common type of all; Acupuncture/Acupressure, Qigong, Pranic Healing, Emotional Touch Therapy (ETT), Healing Touch Therapy (HTT) and Polarity Healing.
All these healing methods have one thing in common. They all work on the basis of manipulating and strengthening energy. We as human beings are made up of energy. In fact everything in the world is energetic at different molecular levels. The life force that flows through us to be healthy, needs to flow unimpeded. Illness occurs, when that energy is blocked. Blockages can occur for various reasons. Disease, long term stress and trauma.
The mind connection is important, because what we think, we create. So maintaining a positive attitude to life is very important. Positivity keeps energy flowing nicely. Depression and anxiety, will slow it down. Causing it to compress and stagnate. Staying healthy, is more than just about eating an healthy diet and taking regular exercise. It is about balance, and harmony. Mental peace is but one aspect, spirituality is another. Many of us have a yearning or need for a spiritual life of some kind. Even if it is simply a belief in a higher power. We don’t need to attend a church, mosque or temple to do that. But it is a philosophy of life that comforts. Offering an explanation or belief about the continuity of spirit, and the meaning and purpose behind our lives. Those who live without purpose or faith in ‘something’, have statistically been proven to make a poorer recovery from ill health, then those who do.
Self healing is a process of connecting to the energy within your own body, by bringing your awareness to it. Pay attention to your body. Particularly those area’s that are showing signs of stress. A very simple healing technique I like to use is this:
Sit in a upright chair, hands resting in your lap. Take some slow deep breaths. As you exhale, let go of all tension. As you inhale, imagine yourself filling up with nourishing oxygen. Do this three or four times, until you feel your breathing is calm and regular. Then imagine a beam of light enters the top of your head. See that light fill up your head, face and neck. This light is divine healing energy.
Slowly, imagine that light moving down through your neck, into your chest and arms. As it flows, it is washing, cleansing, purifying the energy of your body. See the light now moving slowly into your stomach and reproductive areas. Then down into your legs and feet. In your minds eye, see yourself transformed into a body of light. Every cell in your body is now infused with healing energy. Allow the light to slowly, move out of your body and into the ground beneath your feet. Ask that it be used to nourish, heal and replenish the earth. Slowly, move your ankles and toes and wiggle your fingers, and rise to your feet. You should now be feeling, relaxed and energised and light in mind, body and spirit. Say a silent thank you for the healing you have received. Remember, that you can do this exercise, virtualisation as often as you want.
A footnote for any prospective healer. The book Hands Of Light By Barbara Ann Brennan is a wonderfully informative guide for those who wish to take healing seriously.
